Wicker By
Design offers two portrait photography props that are ideal baby posers
and infant posers: the
beanbag baby poser and the
wicker baby poser . The wicker baby poser places
the baby in an angled seat tilted slightly back. It comes
with a washable pad and a velcro seat belt that match the color of the
poser. The baby poser's dimensions are 17 inches tall, 17
inches wide and 20 inches deep. Babies can be posed in it
when they have sufficient neck strength. It is especially
suited for to 4-6 month olds because they can hold their head up and
have some back strength. Even a 2 or 3 year can sit in it for
a beach chair look.
| The baby
beanbag poser includes a large pillow and footrest and the dimensions
are 12 inches high at the back, width 20 inches and length 20
inches. The beanbag
baby poser can be used to pose infants in a variety of
ways. Many portrait photographers have trouble working with
babies that cannot sit up by themselves. This portrait prop
provides an easy way to pose the baby at good camera angle without
using a car seat or having mom hide behind the baby. Designed
specifically for studio portrait photography, this beanbag prop molds
around the baby's body. Photograph a reclining infant,
sitting 6-month-old baby, a baby on its tummy over the high end or
newborns curled on their side. Use as a multi-level posing
block for two or three children or for an adult on the floor. |

The large
back pillow and the detachable footrest are the two items manipulated
for all these poser props. The beanbag poser will need to be
covered with a soft cloth, which could be a soft muslin, tablecloth or
blanket. The most common pose for young babies (1 to 4
months) involves attaching the footrest with Velcro across the front,
creating a hole for the baby’s buttocks to go down in while the head
and shoulders are supported by the back pillow and the feet and legs
are on the footrest. The baby’s behind will sink down in the
hole only as far as the fabric covering allows so experiment to find
the best level.

For sitting
babies who can hold their head up but are still too wobbly to sit
alone, use only the back pillow, placing the baby into it as if it were
an overstuffed chair. The pillow will support the back and
sides while the baby holds their own head up and rests arms on the
sides. For tummy portrait shots, either put the footrest piece
into the hole or leave it out. The baby lies on the poser
looking up over the tall, back end toward the camera.
Newborns pose nicely curled on their side with the back pillow and
footrest fit together. |
The profile shot with head and hands is popular for this age.
One of our photography customers uses the footrest as a kneeler on the
back of the large pillow, having a 1-year-old kneel on it and put their
hands on the large pillow. Use the beanbag baby poser for a
multi-level posing block. Put one sitting child on the front
armrest, another on the higher back, and a third child or parent on the
floor leaning in on the armrest. Also, use
as an ottoman on the floor for glamor, mother/baby or just an extra
seat in a group portrait shot.
Finally, the Beanbag Baby Poser is for portrait photography studio use
only; it is not intended for home use or child care. We have
closed the zippers to prevent “spilling the beans,” but you can remove
some of the beans for a softer bag. The poser can be
spot-cleaned. Use a moisture barrier between bag and covering
cloth to prevent leakage onto bag. Over a long period of time
the beans will deflate; you can add some fluffy dacron to bag through
zippered back or attempt to add more beans (very messy).
